This morning, I awoke from the strangest dream….
In the dream, there was a large crowd of people and we were all at some kind of a “county fair” type event.
While it was sketchy and foggy in places, there was a long point where I was engrossed in the chopping of small bits of food pieces in a huge storehouse or barn.
For some reason, it put me in mind of making stuffing for a Christmas turkey, I remember the celery bits, onion bits, and cubes of bread… none of which you would feed a bird with, but ironically would stuff the whole bunch of them!
Placing the “ingredients” of food items into a large stainless steel bowl, I scanned the ones in close proximity to me and noted they were doing the same. Some added their labours to medium sized bowls, and some to smaller. I noticed mine was a substancial size larger, and wondered why I was given so much more work to do.
I clearly remember glancing at the clucking, scratching, group of chickens on the dirt floor running around in a small impatient frenzy. They were clad in all their reddish brown and multi-coloured feathers, and aware they were awaiting something, but not clear as to what it was.
All the while I was wondering… what on earth I was doing there?
Apparently, the chickens were going to be in a race, but they were not going to run it without some food, as this was all that was needed to motivate them to make it to the finish line.
What I finally determined that I was doing, was providing sustenance for my own chicken. As it turned out however, it was not just my own chicken, but it was for the whole group to also dine from, if they should run out of food elsewhere.
While there was more to it all, these are the pertinent outstanding details. Even waking up in a semi-dopey dreamlike fog, I realized that there was a message clearer that one would have thought…
The world is full of chickens. Scratching and clawing their way to the end of the finish line, they seek the food and things that would keep them going. They watch and await something that is eagerly coming, and don’t even understand what it is. Perhaps nobody has told them that the “King of Kings, and Lord of Lords” is going to make His triumphant return to earth, very soon.
We, as His children, are sitting in a storehouse place of provision. We have everything we need to provide the substance, and to share it with others. The “menu” has already been written, but we just have to help the head Chef with the preparations required.
I, myself, like the others along side of me, am a “sous chef” that is learning, and my job is to help provide the sustenance and nourishment of “spiritual food” to the ones around me.
Perhaps the size of that stainless-steel bowl, represents our sphere of influence or assignments before us. Perhaps it is the effort of opportunities, or labour and effort that will be required of us, for we have been placed here to do. We are all called to different destinies for Kingdom purposes and none of us are all called to do the exact same thing at the same time. No doubt the sizes of the bowls we are handed, change according to the volume of the task or recipe given for the dining experience!
Most importantly, we are not to be just tossing them scraps or what has fallen on the dirt floor, but, instead, offering the very best presentation of what will be part of the feast at the banquet table. Not just the leftovers, but of very finest, and tastiest stuffing. It would be something that would fill them, and benefit them internally, and eternally – all that they might be given a place of honour at the table, where we are seated with the heavenly King… forever.
I don’t know about you, but suddenly I am thinking about chicken…
So…. how about helping in the kitchen?
